Off To Get Her Whatsit Waxed

Bromheads Jacket, "Woolley Bridge" - Y'know, it wasn't that long ago that I wouldn't have been able to appreciate this song - at least not as long as you think. I mean, I've heard a lot of British indie pop this year, and when push comes to shove, you probably couldn't push a playing card between Bromheads Jacket and, say, the Delights; for better or worse there's just a whole pack of bands roaming the UK with seemingly the same ambitions, and I say that knowing full well that that may be the most idiotically obvious statement in the history of this blog. But just because they're all doing the same thing doesn't necessarily mean (a) that the thing they're doing totally lacks value, and (b) that some bands aren't better at it than others, and I feel pretty safe in putting the full force of my nu-Britpop circumspection into saying that at the very least, Bromheads Jacket do get the "rocking" part of the equation d0wn, and you have no idea how much our contemporary age of The Least Enthusiastic Blur Songs You Can Possibly Imagine could be improved by "House Of Jealous Lovers"-ing up a song's chorus even just a little bit. Bromheads Jacket actually have a new single out this week, "What Ifs and Maybes", but I still stand by this one as the go-to single, so, uh, here it is; I'm guessing that there'll be enough of you interested by this to check ze newie out and decide for yourself. The Lodger, "You Got Me Wrong" - So we've gotten to that part of the year where we all get to swing wildly in the dark and see if we can pick any bands that'll blow up next year. For some reason, I'm pretty sure that The Lodger have good things in their future; I can't say I'm a big fan of all the songs they've put out so far (in fact, "You Got Me Wrong" is pretty much the only one I'm trying to pass around to people), but it's pretty hard to ignore either lead singer Ben Siddall's perfect-for-this-particular-song delivery or that swingin' indie-disco guitar line - it's like someone's trying to bring the La's up to today's standards whether they need that kind of push or not. Anyway, they're starting to develop a bit of a following (and rightfully so); I'm not saying they're going to be the Guillemots or the Harlem Shakes, but it's not hard to see them taking off. ELSEWHERE

- God, is there anything in this world more entertaining than some guy from an indie band (with, to be fair, at least one nice little single to their name) arguing with non-fans? You be the judge.
